Listerine For Mosquitoes

Hi Everybody,
Just wanted to let yall know about a great way to keep the mosquitoes off while out in the yard. It's Listerine. Just spray it on your body the same way as if you were using "OFF". Not only does it work as well or even better than Deep Woods OFF, its safe & a whole lot cheaper! It has to be the "original" Listerine, NOT the mint flavor. You can use the Dollar Store brand ($2.00) or Walmart's Equate brand ($2.50) as long as it's the original flavor. I had been using Deep Woods OFF with 29% Deet & having to spray every few hours and was still getting bites. I know Deet is bad for you but other than dressing in long pants & shirt in 90 degree weather, I had no choice. I've tried about every tip & suggestion there is to keep them away but nothing has ever worked until "Listerine". I honestly didn't think it would work either, But I've been using & testing it for the past 3 weeks & it REALLY DOES WORK. And if it works for me, it should work for anyone because the mosquitoes LOVE me! At dusk while watering my flowers, I can hear the moquitoes swarming around me BUT NO BITES!!! And tonight my mother-in-law's legs were covered in black dots that were actually moquitoes. She sprayed with Listerine & they completely went away. So...she told me to spread the word!!!

Great!! I'll definitely have to give that a try here in the hot, humid south where these little buggers thrive.

Thanks a lot!

A little 80yr old man at the Dollar Store told me about it when I asked him why he was buying 4 big bottles of Listerine. I came home and googled it and other than the snopes.com article there wasn't much info about it. I'm a nurse, so I don't believe many wive's tales unless they have a medical basis. So I was very doubtful but my mother-in-law wanted to try it. She sprayed her deck with Listerine and NO it didn't keep the mosquitoes off the deck. BUT I've used it everyday for 3 weeks now and it definitely keeps them off my body.

WinkA definite maybe

Ya know - I was skeptical, but last evening, while doing some work in the garden,
I decided to go ahead and give it a try -
I already had some (W'mart brand) in a spray bottle because I use it sometimes on my orchids
(but that's another story ).

Anyhow, just as a test, I sprayed my arms and not my legs,
and honestly, it really did seem to make a noticeable difference -
I won't say that I'm 100% convinced ... yet -
but it seemed to help enough that I'm going to test it again, next time I'll spray my legs and not my arms.

Thanks for sharing the idea, Lana, if it does prove out for me,
I'll feel alot better about using this than other repellents - I have a small pet that often licks my skin,
and I was worried about the other types of sprays so had stopped using anything at all.
