Gigantic Grub Monsters Hatched!!!Hey, I was digging in my compost pile yesterday & found what my gigantic grubs hatched into. I was soooo excited to see Rhinocerous (sp?) Beetles. At least I think that is what they are, from what I remember when I was in high school. We had them in our biology bug collection. I did get some pics that I will post when I get time. They are about 2 1/2 inches long about 1 inch wide & about 3/4 of an inch thick. There is a circular area on top of the head that looks like it will be where the horn will develop. He really didn't want to be uncovered......really started digging to get back under the compost. The are really cooool looking beetles & are supposed to be beneficial insects ![]() Last edited by PlantSwap; 08-06-2008 at 10:43 AM. |

| Good deal! All the grubs I find in my yard when digging are the *&^&^% June bugs.

| Looking forward to seeing those pictures. Are those those black things? Never saw a "real" one. I've seen some really neat looking things that are new to me since we've been in Oklahoma though. I now have a pet lizard in my gardens that is green headed with dark brown stripes to the tip of his tail and the green fades to light brown. Last year I had some neon blue lizards but haven't seen them this year. We have bright red dragon flies that I've never seen before-as well as the neon blues. Then there are the mammoth spiders hanging in webs from the trees every night when we go for walks that we have to try to dodge or their webs cover your whole head. ICK! Friendly neighborhood tarantulas and scorpions too! |
