Wanna Be Blooms

We have been seeing temps dip on and off here in New Orleans. I think the lowest temps so far has gone down to 30 degrees. I looked around in my garden today and noticed a few wannabe blooms.

Pink Musk Mallow - will she make it?

Bad weather

Flowerdazed I feel so bad for you with the weather shifting its cold down to your area. This cold flow has really effected a lot of people who did not expect it. Hope your plants survive and bloom.

Thanks Swamplady. Well, we did have temps dip but back up and petering each day on cool, or mild. My brug buds are holding on so far. Not sure if they will bloom or not. We'll see. I had a hibiscus bud showing just recently.

And when I went to take off the cover the other day, it had bloomed, then dropped to the ground.

Smaller than a normal bloom but, it made it.

FD, I'm so glad to see all your posts. Here everything is brown and sleeping. I walked through the yard carefully searching for some hidden surprise but no such luck, but at least I can look at yours!

Okay, I'll give you more bali. And the brug is teetering.

Thanks Penny!

SadieMae, I am glad you enjoy all my posts, another hobby of mine. And I am glad I can share, in sight with everyone, what is holding on in my garden. I'm also glad to hear you appreciate it too. Laurie. Sorry you are not seeing your blooms yet but spring is not too very far off. What do you think you will see bloom first in your garden next spring?

Okay, this wannabe made it. I was glad to see her hold on.

Pink Musk Mallow
There are a few more buds on the plant, so we shall see if they make it or not.

Will my brug bloom? Sure hope so, she's holding on as well. She is either 'Cotton Candy' or 'Cherub'. Hoping for the latter but either will be fine.

The pot is too heavy to move, but I will cover her in a frost blanket if we have a freeze threat. I want to see her bloom too.

okay bali, my brug bloomed!

'Cotton Candy' brugmansia
I was surprised to see the color but the brug just opened yesterday so I'm sure it will turn more in color. Today I had to cover so she's tucked under cover at this time. If I remember, I'll look in tomorrow to see if she is changing color.

I noticed this wannabe yesterday as well.

Empress Eugenie passionflower
I don't think she will make it as a larger bud (not opened) fell off when I touched it But I do have a little hope on the bud I'm showing you.

Thanks bali! Okay, I just went outside, got under the covers, snapped your shot and measured. Boy, the lengths we take for plants.

The brug measures 21 inches from top to bottom. The diameter is 9 1/2 to 10 inches. No scent of yet. I'll bet tonight it will smell.
