Moving Scuppernong Vines?Hi everyone! New to the forum and need some serious help. I have two massive scuppernong vines in my yard. One is a tame vine and the other is wild. I was wondering if there was a way to move them. We have gotten a new home and I am dying to take part of these two lovelys with me. I will post pictures of them tomorrow. I do know they are in desperate need to be cut back but I have been afraid to do it. Both of the vines are well over 30 years old and also have tons of sentimental value to me other than just being fantastic to eat come fall. Any ideas? Is there something I can do with the runners off the vines? How long will it take them to start reproducing again? |

| In S GA, it's IMPOSSIBLE to kill a scuppernong vine!!! And if those plants have been there that long, you should be able to find some younger shoots. The scuppernong takes root almost everywhere it touches the ground. And new shoots come up from existing vines. I would suggest that you look for some of the younger shoots and transplant them to your new site. They should be just fine as long as you keep them watered until they get acclimated to their new environment. We moved one about 10 years ago and to keep it under control, I cut it back to the mail stem each winter . .and am careful to dig out any new. unwanted shoots as soon as I see them. |
