Yup, any kind of banana leaves, and also Canna, Heliconia, and Musella leaves. The effect is that the food gets a lovely subtle smokey flavour from the leaves, and they're also the original non-stick cooking wares. I can't believe none of you has heard of Cochinita Pibil, which is pork butt slow-roasted in banana leaves.

I like to do rice wrapped in banana leaves - I soak the rice overnight in coconut milk with a dash of curry, then stir in crushed peanuts, wrap the packets up, and steam them until they get nice and puffy and firm. Dee-lish.
