What Made You Smile today While out in your garden

After hurriedly moving tenders and tropicals to the shed this morning as we will have cold weather (30's) again tonight then for a few days, I looked up and saw my little purple variegated vinca vine bloom in a basket that old man winter got the best of except for her. The little guy put a smile on my face today. I must admit it doesn't take very much to put a smile on my face.

Well, my smile was more of laughter! I was looking out in the garden, but it is animal related - lol! This young squirrel is trying to get to the suet cake that is tied into this swing feeder

Oh yes, RR, he did and then he laid down on his side and all you could see was his tail hanging off the edge - lol! When he was done, he climbed back up and smiled for me. They think this arch is their jungle gym and it is soooo funny!

Well, my gardens are under 6 inches of snow, so I can't see much of them at the moment, but when I close my eyes and think of all the bulbs that I planted and the tender green shoots finally peeking out from under the dirt..............

Yep RR, cold and rainy here as well....but my desk is in the front of my office window looking out into my garden, birdhouses and feeders. I wish this whole wall was one large window (Yes I asked hubby, he laughed and said no).

That is a very cool plant, I just looked it up. Love the yellow blooms!!

I've posted this on another thread but will share it with you all. Not too inviting into the garden.

What Made You Smile today While out in your garden

Piddling around in the cold starting a few seeds. Looked up to see the beagles sitting in the ginger with only their noses peaking out like they were cats waiting for something to come by so they could pounce on it. Can't find my camera, so couldn't get a pic.

Hey SunnyDay,
too funny girl. Glad you were able to capture the squirrel and his shananagans.

Araven, whoa, 6 inches of snow but I do like your thoughts

BFG, interesting pic but you said this puts a smile on your face? Hmmmm

Hey grump,
Awwwwhhh, I bet they looked so cute waiting for a pounce. Yes, please do take a pic when they do it again.

Okay, "What Made You Smile Today While Out in Your Garden"?

I was out making the rounds with the camera, and came across tons of little monarch eggs jiggling on the tips of the milkweed plants (they are eggs, aren't they, or are they baby caterpillars?)

Anyway, I got down to take a picture.....

and I noticed a monarch hanging upside down under a bromeliad leaf (see upper left hand corner of picture above). On closer inspection, I confirmed my suspicion..... it had just hatched from its cocoon!!

..... it even had a part of the outer cocoon still attached to its underbelly.

I watched it opening and closing its wings for a few minutes, and then it walked to the edge of the leaf, and flew a short distance away..... spectacular!!

It definitely put a smile on my face!

That is wonderful Miami! I love those pics.

My garden is sleep and there isn't much to see at the moment, but I sure do have a lot of visuals on how I want it to look this yr.

I am so jealous MiamiGirl. All I have are icicles and gackles fighting over the oranges and apples I tossed out.

FD, I didn't quite read the name of the thread--I thought it was 'what did you find in your garden...' You're right, no smiles here, but then it could be lots worse.
