I have overwintered Geraniums by digging, shaking the soil off the roots, hanging them upside down in a cool dark closet for the winter. Repot in spring and CAREFULLY introduce them back into the light and temperature. No strong wind or sun at first.

I simply let mine in the pots an put them in a unheated room. Come back beautiful.

I am zone 5 so it makes a difference.
I would be lost without geraniums.
