New Orleans Hibiscus Show

A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity of viewing some fabulous exotic hibiscus at the New Orleans Hibiscus Show.

Of course I had to take pictures of these magnificant specimins of exotic hibiscus and share with my friends here at plantswap.

Take a look

One of the tables at the show.

A centerpiece of all sorts of hibiscus shown at the winner's table.

A close up of one of many circular tables of hibiscus.

More of the same.

Winner's table

A beauty specimin

Another pretty!

And yet another.

I was so taken with the all the beauty in that room that day! It was really something to behold. And, my pics really don't do the gorgeous plants justice.

There were exotic cajun hibiscus plants for sale too. Of course I just had to come home with one! I'll save that for another thread!

Enjoy!

Just wonderful! I adore them all.

I recently bought a beautiful woody hibiscus & all the leaves are turning yellow & falling off. Time to consult the plant goddesses on what I'm doing wrong. Ideas? I suspect it's not enough sun.

The flowers are stunning. but I have to say, I have yet to see a hibiscus plant that looks good (besides the single red plain old garden variety). they all seem to straggle along with a few blooms and just as little leaves. Of course I never visited a yard from a hibiscus grower.

Awwhh, thanks for the 5 star rating!

Thanks Diane, Saba, Shirley, MR & bali.

SouthernGrl,
Ditto! Only the blooms were exhibited at the show. A plant sale was held outside. The grower, Bobby Dupont Nurseries, is located in Plaquemines Parish. He was there, on hand, talking with people and answering pertinent questions.

There were plants for sale outside so I was able to see a number of plants. The show was really something. I couldn't wait to share my pics with you as I thought about plantswap friends who I just knew would enjoy seeing this exhibit.

Thanks phenix, you are talking tropical hibiscus, right? Hmmm, your hibiscus could have some light issues, not to mention watering techniques, fertilizing or what have you. Did you get a description card with your hibiscus?

Thanks Angie, I absolutely love hibiscus plants. When I walked in to the show, I was just in awe. I loved the centerpiece as well. What a novel idea someone had there.

PUD, thanks

GT,
Hmmm, I'm surprised. I would think you would see stunning varieties there in Florida.

Those are all so lovely. Takes me back to my childhood. Seeing blossoms like that make be want to go home to Maui.

My father grew many of those and many others, all tropical of course. He would take us to the shows but couldn't be bothered to enter any of his own even though I am sure he would have won many prizes. Dad was more interested in finding one or more he didn't already have. Our entire one acre yard was surrounded by hibiscus plants. Many were grafted to have as many as four different blossoms on it.

TFS and the memories
