Medinilla magnifica getting ready to....

Back in June of 2013, I was at a flower show and spotted one of the most unusual plants I have seen at that point- Medinilla magnifica. The name I think, tells it all; what a name! Anyway, the vendor was offering small Medinilla magnifica plants for sale so I scooped one up for my growing. The vendor did tell me it would take some 5 years before I would see blooms tho. It didn't matter to me as I had to have this plant in my collection. I knew I would take good care of her so she would one day provide me with her beauty in her blooms!
Here is my first pic taken a few weeks after I bought her in June, 2013. I wanted to transplant her to a pretty pot and give her a little space so she would be happy!

By the time November 2013 came, I decided to once again transplant her to a larger pot to give her more space. In the meantime, she would drop a few leaves, then grow more to replace them.

Today, I spotted a flower bud. I am so very surprised as the vendor said it would take some 5 years and for me, my plant is lacking one year old by one month and I'm seeing a bud.
Here is how she looks today!

Here is her flower bud!

It is going to be some show according to the parent plant that I saw in blooms back in June 2013! Stay tuned!

Nice !

It was originally cutting grown, which means it is literally as old as the mother plant - and that's why it would bloom sooner than later. If it were seedling grown, it would certainly take that long.

They are great plants!

How fantastic for you to see a bloom so soon. And what a strong testament to the tender loving care your plant received from you – and early Happy Mother’s Day surprise.

Thanks Sherie, tsilent, Swamplady & Shrooms.

The vendor was quite adamant in telling me I will not see blooms for a number of years, LOL. It will be quite interesting to see what the pendulum blooms will do, how long they will take to bloom etc., etc. I'll post pics as things develop!

A little over one week has passed and wanted to give y'all an update!

Notice the bud stem undulating.

Full view

And I always like to see new growth!

Seems this little baby will be taking quite a while to show her beauty in her blooms! Sit back and relax and enjoy the long show. LOL

That's one happy plant, that bloom is going to be amazing!

That second picture made me think of Little Shop of Horrors - if it starts to open and you see some teeth, DON'T feed it, lol!

You are going to love it. Flowers last a long time. I used to have three of them earlier this year, my son manage to kill all three for not watering.

Thanks Reb!
Here she is today!

As you can see, the color is starting to come into the anticipated blooms.

Hmmm, how much longer before blooms, we'll see.
