knock out rose questions

Does anyone here grow these? How do you get new ones? Cuttings? Do they root easily? Have they bloomed all summer for you? I was reading about these on the web and went and bought one today. I really wanted to try one since, for some reason, I have problems with my other roses. I just wanted to hear anyone else's insight if they have these. Any experience you have had with them would be helpful. Good, bad, or ugly, I would like to hear it.
Thanks
Deb

I have seen them but dont have them. I too have had trouble with roses. They are so touchy and fragile. I hope you have success because they sure are pretty!

My co-worker always raves about how beautiful and abundant hers is. I am anxious to get some, but no money. Good luck with yours!

I have 3 knockout rose bushes. They are easy to grow although I have never tried to root them. Mine bloom profusely but the Japanese bettles do love them unfortunately.

Didn't realize Knock Out Roses was a typeof rose!!! Dahhh. Oh well looked them up on the internet and I think I might be wanting some. Will have to check out Lowe's this week and see what's cooking. Maybe I will get lucky and find one on clearance!?!?!?

They are very easy to take care of and mine are always full of blooms.
My mom picked up 3 one gallon size pots at our Lowe's last week for 5 bucks each. They grow pretty quick- or at least mine do.

Yeah, I'm going tomorrow - could be dangerous! Hope I do find a rose, if not I will have to settle for whatever else is on clearance!

Just when I think it can't get any better on those clearance racks - I stopped at Lowes today (almost didn't) and almost fainted when I saw a Knock Out rose on clearance and it was the pale pink color I've been wanting!!!! Now my only question is to those of you who have been growing them - is there anything special I should do to help this little fellow along? A bit of him is brown and dried up but there is still a good portion that is green and it even has some flowers on it. Thanks for the help

Trim it back of all the brown limbs,And any dead blossoms then plant as usual in a sunny spot. Water daily for the first 2 weeks & it should do just great.

Knock out

Deb, my neighbor gave me a Knock Out rose last year that was a stray from his full bed of them. Although I have not tried rooting it yet, I hear that it is very easy with cuttings. In TX, I would root roses by taking pencil size cuttings and sticking them in the ground with a glass mayo jar over them (to keep them moist). In the spring after a full set or two of leaves was showing on the cutting, I would lift the jar off (before the heat baked them) and give a gently tug on the plant to make sure there were roots. If so, I would dig up and replant. Very easy!

As for those rose growing problems . . . I learned this the hard way. Stay away from the big hybrid varieties. They rarely have a scent anyway! Instead, buy / plant only "antique" roses and species roses. No disease problems / no spraying and no significant bug problems. They are effortless to grow and just beautiful! Good nurseries seem to be carrying these much more than they used to -- just ask the rose guru when you get to the rose section. I got my first antique roses by mail order from the Antique Rose Emporium in TX years ago and was very pleased with the plants. however, I ordered from them again when I moved to CO and was not as satisfied. Not sure if the Emporium has gone down in quality or if the environment in CO is just a bit tougher. Now, I have growing 7 different varieties so far -- More to come!

In any case, antique roses (and the species roses) are sooooooo worth the investment!
