Deciduous shrubs for Central TexasOne thing I have discovered since moving to Austin from Houston is that I can grow plants more typically found in colder hardiness zones because we have just enough winter to accomodate them. One nice surprise was the variegated Weigela (a plant I have always loved but couldn't grow in Houston due to winters being a bit too warm), It surprised me on April fools day with an explosion of bloom. See the photo. I do have it in a protected spot where it doesn't bear the brunt of our summer heat. |

| Bernard, Check the photo gallery for new pictures of the Weigela blooms. They changed color in just two days!! Weigela roots super easy so I plan to propagate a few soon. |

| I think it's just in the genes. Many roses and other flowers go through a color transition with the age of the bloom. I hadn't grown Weigela in over 20 years so may have forgotten about the bloom characteristics. |
