Brugs start blooming_2016

2016-04-22 first day after winter storage

2016-04-30 moved to garage for 6 weeks (rainy and almost freezing May and still cold and wet half of June)

2016-04-16 spring cuttings

2016-07-14 cuttings from pic above

After unusual almost freezing and rainy May and half of June my beauties probably got little confused,
9' B.Berkonigin always first to bloom (mid June) don't have flower buds yet but lk all green and healthy

so other brugmansias:

B.Monkey Shine bloomed and the fragrance in the evening rewarded all my waiting

B.Lady Katherina

Another Lady Katherina, only 2' high

B.Day Dream

Finaly I have beautiful and hot summer here, upper 80s and lower/mid 90s now, love it.

Hello Brugmansia lovers/growers, don't be shy, show your beauties.

How blessed we are in zone 9 south Louisiana where they start blooming in May planted out in the ground. I have several that I only cover in 40* weather to keep them from too much branch end loss. I guess that's why they bounce back by April with new growth that flowers by late May. Glad to see your potted success of these beauties that come in so many colors. Enjoy!

Marvelous, Saba - really marvelous!! You are a Brug master!

You really are blessed growing your Brugs in zone 9, Trudy_Bee.
Hope that you'll include some pix of your beauties, too.

Here in NC, some of my Brugs are planted in-ground (like yours, Trudy),
but without cover and some supplemental heat, they do die all the way to the ground and won't be large enough to bloom until well into the summer ... so, I'm still waiting for those ...

But - I do also grow some of mine in containers (as Saba does), just so that I can enjoy a bit of springtime bloom, too.
Here are some pix (taken back in May) of a few of my container babies -

'Charles Grimaldi':

Thank you, thank you.

bali, maybe yours are not mature to bloom yet or need another few weeks or like I mention above they are confused after our unusual spring this year. Half of my brugs what use to be in full bloom right now don't even have flower buds.
However, old and huge B.Angels Swingtime very late bloomer (September/October) have flower bud now.

What a messed up growing and flowering cycle for my beauties.

Btw- do you fertilize regularly? They love to eat, a lot.

TrudyBee- indeed, lucky you, I'm happy you can enjoy those beauties so much earlier.
Could you post pics, blooms and the whole tree/bush if you don't mind.

zuzu- they're soooo pretty, lucky you too to be able to enjoy this beauties so early in the season, thanks for posting pics,
now I'm smileing from ear to ear.

Beautiful Brugs!!! Mine are all in ground also and are just now starting to put out buds. But, I am thinking I will root some up this winter and grow a couple in pots, too. I want some earlier blooms. Do keep posting pix!!

Gardening Friends, sorry I don't have a phone that allows me to take & send picture as so many do today. I'm a little antiquated with a simple flip phone with no internet services. I take pics with my camera but haven't learned how to transfer to post online. Maybe it's for the best because I'd be a posting nut & really over do it. HaHa! I have Charles Grimaldi, Rhapsody (a pink) & Peach Versicolor. My C. Grimaldi grows all year bigger & tree like then in September thru Nov. is loaded with blooms. All these varieties have very fragrant blooms. I do have to watch for spider mites.

Does C Grimaldi smell like baby powder? I have a large yellow NOID that has a strong baby powder scent. I don't know how to post pix either.

Hi Zazinnia, this is Trudy. Now that you say it I never thought to describe it's fragrance as baby powder but that's the best description of the fragrance most of mine have to some degree or another. I think it's such a wonderful scent. To Update You, most plants you sent are doing well. Thanks again.
