Dutchman's Pipe?

For many years I had a beautiful plant that got a start of from a dear friend who has now passed away. She called it a Dutchman's Pipe. It looked to be in the Jew family. It was a robust plant that was super easy to root. It had jointed segments like a jew plant, but much larger. It was green with some purple varigations. When it grew down out of the hanging basket it would curve back upward almost like one of those pipes like Sherlock Holmes smoked. Does this sound familiar to anyone? My plant got frozen last winter & I would love to have another start. I've never found it anywhere else besides from my friend's plant. I don't even know if that is the correct name. Thanks! I was lucky enough to get a cutting of this lovely plant, too.
It was growing really well and had gotten pretty large already ...
and then the squirrels found it,
apparently the little guys thought it was DEE-licious! So right now, it is back in the glasshouse,
out of the reach of the little fuzz butts, recovering.

The botanical name is Callisia fragrans:

Dutchman's Pipe

Good Morning & thanks so much for the quick replies! I can't tell for sure by the pic if this is the same variety that I had before, but it sure looks similar. I would love, love, love, to get a start of it. Will gladly make a trade. I will try to contact Deb b. Thanks again & have a great day! Trumpetvine

What kind of perennials do you have to trade for the Grandfathers Pipe? This is what I was told it was. I really don't know for sure, but it really does sound just like your plant. I never found this post until I received your pm. I would love to trade with you. Let me know what you have and I will pick something. Sound good? LMN, Deb

Grandfather's Pipe

I have starts of Night Blooming Cereus, marigold seeds, Zinnia seeds, Irises of various colors, Jack Beans which makes a beautiful trailing vine with deep purple flowers & beans, crepe myrtles, Monkey grass, Purple Lantana,& Tiger Lilies....any of this strike your fancy?

I was given a start of this plant many years ago by one of my best friends , who has since passed away.I aways thought of her when I looked at it. It was so prolific that I thought I would never run out of it..............however, I was laid up from surgery when it came time to bring my plants in for the winter & my husband didn't get that one into a protective area in time.

Thank you Pushin-up-Daisies for such kind words. I really appreciate that alot. You are just as good and kind. And so are you Zuzu's Petals. I can never leave out such a good person. Hope you all have a great day. Happy Gardening.

Can we trade on your Monkey grass, Tiger lily, Iris-many colors, Crepe Myrtles, Lantana and the Jack Beans?
I have other Houseplants that I could trade.
Mother in Laws tongue, different varieties, Christmas Cactus-red, and fushia, Spider plant, Milk Tree Cactus, Pepperomia, different varieties, Philodendron, Pothos, African Violet-leaves, and probably some others that I just can't remember at this time. I also have alot of seeds. Just let me know what you are interested in. Want to make a good trade? LMN, send me a pm and you can post here if you want.
Deb
