Just registered with this forum and am looking to buy or trade some bare root Crepe Myrtle cuttings. I am just starting to do some of my own and would like to find some experienced person who has done Crepe Myrtle

Hi wa4fla, welcome to the forums.

I have lots of Crepe Myrtles here, but I've never bothered to root any cuttings (and we trim them every year). I'll see about trying to root some this Fall. Any particular flower color you are interested in? I've got white, lavendar, pink and red.

How do you root the cuttings from the crepe myrtle? Which part of the growing season is best for rooting cuttings. I have a fuschia one that was planted here by the former owner in full shade and it isn't flowering much. That one is too big to move but I would love to have others in some sunnier locations on the property. I'm new to tree cuttings. Still trying to figure it all out. I would love any advice from experienced gardeners on the process of rooting evergreen and deciduous trees from cuttings. Thanks.

Here is a link that might help with tree/shrub cuttings.

I noticed that someone was wanting to root Crepe Myrtle. I found this link that might help. I don't know if it's for C. M. or not but I'm sure someone could use it. Hope it works.

If this doen's work, let me know and I will try again. I'm new here, but I like to help when I can. I would love to have some Crepe Myrtle, all colors, when it's ready.
Still looking for red Shrimp Plant also.

I always had the best luck this time of year...

Haven't done the myrtles-I'll have to go out and get those tomorrow (I have pink and fuschia). Coincidentally, I just started some cuttings today from my forsythia and wisteria. The buds are just breaking forth forth from the branch and I've always done mine when they look like this. The nutrients are coming from the roots after the dormant state. I was growing pussywillows and forsythias this way when I was 7. Tomorrow I was planning to grab some honeysuckle and pussywillow. I know they will grow, and I was going to try to start some Rose of Sharon (double fuschia). If anyone is interested, let me know and I'll cut a few more to get them started for spring. Im not sure how the Rose of Sharon will do, or the Myrtle, but I'm planning to give it a try.

I would also like some of your Rose of Sharon cutting's. Let me know how it works. Do you add anything to your water to get them going? Or is it just plain water?
I would also like to trade for some Wisteria, especially this. Some Forsythia, Pussywillows and both Crepe Myrtle.

cuttings

As I looked at the myrtles, and snapped a branch-they are still too dormant. Same with the pussywillow. Then I remembered that I usually wait until after they flower to pull them. (I guess I'm getting senile). All my cuttings are trial and error but I've had good success with the forsythia, pussywillow and wisteria. I never used root stimulator, (only because Grandma never did) just stuck them in a vase. They get looking real dead before they start growing. Just when you think they are stone cold, never could possibly return dead, they will take off. (I usually pull a large branch because I like to snap little pieces just to make sure I didn't lose it when it looks so dead.) I pulled a good size wysteria branch that was growing into the neighbors yard. I'll put it in the window with the others I cut yesterday. If it dies, I pulled it too early and I'll start another for ya later in the season. One way or another, I'll get you a good cutting on the ones you want. PM me your address and the cuttings you want and I'll put it in my email file so I'll have it. I'll PM you when they are ready. -Donna

myrtles

Hi Jennifer!
I have pink and fuschia myrtles. They are about twelve feet tall and I will pull some sprigs off when they show a little more life and get them rooted. Send me a private message with your email and I'll let you know when they are ready. Then you can send me your address so I can send it to you. Make sure you tell your parents that you are giving me your address and why. I think I would freak if my teenage daughters started getting packages in the mail from friends they met on line (you know us paranoid parents really love you kids!)

Thanks
Donna

Good thinking Donna.. (Still pregnant with my first) If my little one, started getting packages from strangers (people I never heard of), I'd freak out too..

When you get a chance, I would love to see about getting a wisteria cutting or two and the honeysuckle too..
