Casaba Melon Plant Needs Home

I wanted to see if I could grow a plant from the seeds of a fruit I
bought a a local grocery store. It was fun to wash and pre-sprout the
seeds. And to my happy suprise, they sprouted up really quickly. I
had have been growing them for a month in a pot indoors in my apartment
and they are starting to take over. The vines are growing up the
blinds of my window at a rapid rate. I don't want to toss them out,
but I have no where to grow them outdoors. Please someone take my
lovely melon plants. I'm proud of them, and don't want to see them die
of lack of room.

Welcome Trix, glad to have you with us.

Congrats on getting those Casaba plants growing!
I don't have the space to add any melon vines this year,
but I expect that some lucky someone will be thrilled to take you up on your generous offer.

Melons

Wow - that's a really neat offer - and a really unusual plant!

Do you intend on shipping these? If so, I wouldn't mind giving them a try in my indoors raised bed garden and see how it does! LMK, thanks

Shipping

I wouldn't mind shipping them, but I can't afford shipping in handling costs. If you don't mind paying S&H, I could find out how much it would cost UPS or USPS. I also would mind driving 15 minutes or less to drop them off. I live in North Philadelphia, near La Salle University. I'm certaintly open to someone picking them up as well. Let me know if you have any other ideas for getting them to you as well.

I think your best option would be for a gardener to pick up as I dont think bigger veggie plant transplant that great, would not wanna ship, I would post PPU on Craigslist or Freecycle in your area and I bet you have a person same day, if I was closer I would pick up and try. Go for it both sites are free. Give those plants a loving home!

Thumbs upTrust in Transplant

I believe I read in Rodell's Encyclopedia of Organic Gardening that melons aren't hard to transplant. They haven't fruited yet, and their only about 5 weeks old.

PM me and let me know where you are exactly, perhaps I could meet you and take your melon plant and try planting it in my yard!
