"flags" are what my grandmother always called iris. I remember that from when I was a kid.

Flags

These are great plants - they are what you often find growing around pond edges - the botanical name escapes me at the moment, but correct me if I'm wrong, but they are the only "semiaquatic" iris?

Thats what I was thinking too, that these iris are the ones that can go in your pond. As far as I know, the only ones also. But I could be wrong

About your bulbs.

Do you like houseplants? I have some I could trade you for some of your bulbs. Like a Ponytail Palm, maybe? I also have Ajuga, it's a groundcover w/purple blooms and leaves that are purplish green. I could just mix a box also if you want to do some trading. If so, how many bulbs would you want to trade me? Just in case.

I googled your bulbs and this is what I found.

The purple flag isn't the only one for bogs.
There is the Yellow flag, Siberian and Louisana Iris that are good for bogs also.
But, beware that the yellow flag iris (pseudocarus) is extremely aggressive and will crowd out the other colors and kill them. The yellow flag iris seed everywhere. A small clump will be several feet in diameter in a few years and will keep growing. The next most prolific is the blue flag iris. These spread well also but cannot compete with the yellow flag.

Thumbs up

Hi JD

Here is what mine looks like:

BLUE FLAG IRIS

It can easily been grown in a regular bed as well as a bog or pond edge. It will grow in full sun to shade, where I have mine here.
Hope that is of some help to you.
Take care
Gary

Beautiful. I have iris in my pond. They were given to me last year but no blooms yet. Hope they are as beautiful as yours when they get flowers. Were those blooms from this year?
Thanks
Deb
