I am having to throw away large cuttings every year. I'd be happy to share for postage (the next I need to do some trimming).

Next time I do a trimming/clean up, I'll check this thread before disposing of my cuttings.

Brugmansias are too easy to root. I don't even bother with rooting hormone. Just stick it in some dirt and water it occasionally. It will root.

UnhappyBeautiful Brugs

I don't know if you gardeners are aware of it, but the Burgs are poisonous plants. Here's a quote from a site called "About Brugs" :

All parts of Brugmansia plants contain dangerous levels of poison and may be fatal if ingested by humans or animals including livestock and pets. Purchaser assumes full responsibility and must exercise independent care and judgment. Some municipalities prohibit the purchase, sale, or cultivation of brugmansia, and it is the purchaser's responsibility to contact the appropriate local authorities in this regard."

If you have pets or grandkids about, this might be good to know.

Cheers,
Annette in LA

They don't sell them around here anymore because they said they had a problem with teens trying to boil them and get high from the opiates and several of them died. I plan to put mine in the fenced backyard. They are so beautiful. The plant that my friends neighbor had was something else so I am still looking. That thing had wicked huge thorns. I still don't know what it was. Its not in bloom right now.

AngryJimson Weed AKA Devil's Trumpet

Kristy,

The unknown huge plant with the thorns was likely Jimson Weed. These do have wicked throns, and are just as poisonous as Angel Trumpet.

Jimson weeds came up in our pig/cow lots back on the farm when I was a girl. We played with them, and I guess we were being protected in our innocence & ignorance. I well remember the thorns!!

The Angel Trumpets are very beautiful plants....I had them for a few years, but they died out, & have decided not to replace them because of the toxicity.

Take care....

Yes Annette, I think thats what it was. I finally found a pink one today at a native plant nursery. They had ordered a few because so many people were asking for them. I got a pink tree form one and a yellow datura. I don't have any chewing pets or small children to worry about so I think they will be ok in the back yard. I keep seeing them on the gardening shows and they remind me of Louisiana. A lot of people in the area I am from had them planted in the ground in front of their homes and I have always wanted one. I can't wait til it blooms.
