anyone have tropicals? Ginger, Plumeria anythingHello all- I am new to this forum, and was looking for some tropical plants for my backyard! I have society garlic, umbrella plant, cast iron plant, banana plams, elephant ears, cannas -yellow & red, purple heart, kimberly fern, liropia, and more that I dont know the names of. I don't know how to propagate though! Most everything I have will be the actual plant. Last edited by sterling; 04-27-2008 at 05:54 PM. |

Welcome to the group, Sterling!I live not too far up the coast from you, just a little ways south of Wilmington, NC.It seems that you and I share a fascination for tropical and sub-tropical plants, or at least plants that can give our gardens a tropical flair. I am originally from Florida, and I'd love to achieve the jungle-y look here in NC. I do grow several Hedychiums, Colocasias, Brugmansias, Hibiscus, Plumerias and lots of other tropical and sub-tropical stuff. Some of them are hardy here, but many others are not and have to be container grown and protected over the winter months in my glasshouse, where they share space with my orchids. Many of these plants are just beginning to emerge here this spring, in fact, I was so thrilled to see several shoots of Curcuma poking up in one of my beds while I was planting Coleus and Justicia today. ![]()

tropicalsHi, I am also new to this forum. Are you needing a start of a tropical for your garden? If so, I can give you a start of my Night Blooming Cereus. It is super easy to grow & is such an interesting plant. When it blooms the blooms are about 10 inches in diamter & it blooms at night. Smells wonderful. My plant had about a dozen blooms on it at one time a couple of years ago & my whole patio smelled so fragrant. If I am doing anything wrong with my posts, someone just tell me. Have a great day! |
