rose

I'm wondering if anyone has an old fashion rose called 7 sisters? If so I sure would love a cutting of it.I love the heirloom roses cause they remind me of my grandmother.Oh I can just smell the sweet aroma of roses now, just a memory passing by.[img]

Just got a chill!

Wow .... so the 7 sisters is really a rose????? My maternal grandmother is one of 7 sisters and most of the 7 sisters have an heirloom rose that came from the family plantation in Kentucky. The family was 'removed' by the govt during WWII - eminent domain. My great grandmother took some with her to Indiana. The 7 sisters all had some, as do many of the kids and grandkids. Anyway - my grandmother always said it was the 7 sisters rose ... but she always did tell a good story. The story gets stranger - my mother had a beautiful one (propped from one of her aunt's plant) that grew up the back of her house in Michigan. This reached to about 12 feet tall ..... and it all died back the winter after she died (2000). Spooky. I had a beautiful one that I left behind when I moved ... expecting to be able to dig up a root from my Mom's that was starting to grow again. So, 8 years later it looks like I will finally be able to dig some up at my Dad's house.

I have tried propagating with rooting hormone - a cousin drove some up from Indiana a few years back. But it just rotted. I can't get anyone else to dig some up for me *boohoo*

So - long story ..... I believe I will be able to dig up a chunk for myself and am happy to get a chunk for you. So send me a PM so I can keep track.

Disclaimer ... this may not be the 7 sisters ... remember my grandma could tell a good story. It is a light pink rose that smells great and blooms one time .. always a day or 2 before or after Mothers Day (Zone5). It is not a bush - but grows on canes that we have always supported.
