Hello Plantman srq, it's great to meet you - I love variegated plants, too.

Tradescantia zanonia 'Variegata' (previously Campelia zanonia)
Commonly called "Mexican Flag" ~

Grows to about 3 feet in height, with broad foliage
and random longitudinal varigation which may be white or yellow.
Produces small white flowers which look very much like
the flowers of it's cousin Spiderwort.

As gorgeous as photos of this tropical perennial are,
I've never grown it myself, as it is reputedly something of a "fussy" plant,
and is generally considered to be most suitable for greenhouse growing.
It prefers a shady location with temperatures ranging from 60-85°F (16-29°C)
and moderate humidity levels.

Welcome plantman srq, think my experience with variagated plants are a bit limited.. Only have a variagated spider plant. Not sure if that counts.. Think I'll leave you in Zuzu's capable hands. But hope you have lots of fun trades though..

Oh my gosh, someone from Sarasota!! I grew up there and was a member of the first graduating class at Riverview HS in 1960, went on th Manatee Community College, then to FSU. Love Selby Gardens but haven't been back to Sarasota in over 10 years. What part of Sarasota do you live in. Was 25,000 population when I grew up there - now over 10X that. I am now in Texas (Austin), retired here after 34 years of Federal Service. I too love variegated plants and tropicals and overwinter some of my favorites in a hobby greenhouse. Visit my website www.southeasttexasgardening.info . From that site, you can see a complete list of the plants I grow by category (e.g. palms, tropicals, etc) and some plants I am wanting to have. Welcome to the Forum.
