I welcome any feedback about the contents of these pages--I know there are technical issues. I will have to find a techi whiz to help me with some of that.

looks great Shirley!!
did you decide about the names yet? are you going to stick with the Plantswap nicknames? if so then if you use my pictures I would like 'gone tropical' instead of GT. GT sounds like half a car (GTI) LOL

No, that's just a reminder for me. Right now it's easier for me to find people by their PS names. I hope you don't mind that on an informal basis I refer to you as GT (not GTO) like I get dubbed BFG. Later, I will refer to you by your 'proper' name.

I had set up my text and pictures in MS Word, and trying to get them into a form I could load and let people view on PS was a challenge. Later, when I've/we've finalized which photos are going to be used, I will include just a photo # with the notation "Photo # goes about here". It's easier to add photos to text than it is to convert text and photos together to a jpg file. I'm not going to do that again. It took up a whole day (my computer hourse) to do that. From now on, I'll send out doc files to people's email addresses;that'll be much easier for me. Another alternative is to print the pages, then scan them back in a jpg files, then load them onto photobucket.

I've already added another page since I posted those pages--the butterfly nooks that you have in your yard. I think I also want to get people to explain why they did a certain thing so I can quote them in text. For instance, why have you chosen to do the several butterfly nooks or corners instead of one big butterfly garden?

GTO ?? what's the O standing for?

and wow, you are really busy with this book project...

to your question:
My yard is not that big, with no areas hidden away and out of sight. And butterfly plants are in general 'weedy' looking plants. Butterflies tend to prefer their native plants (aka weeds). Also, for attracting Butterflies one should plant feeder plants (dill, fennel, parsley, etc), those will have the chewed up look being covered by caterpillars... you get the picture
I have the designated butterfly plants tugged in throughout the yard and it just does not matter that much in the overall picture if one flowering plant is over its prime must be trimmed back, or if a feeder plant is stripped of its leaves by caterpillars.

Thank you Bali. You're a doll. Evelyn, the GTO was a really hot car back in the 60s, I guess it was. Too long ago!!! May I quote some of what you say about the butterfly areas in your yard?

Listen guys, please be honest and tell me if the way I am writing these chapters has general appeal. Everytime I pick up a gardening book, if there are scenes of beds, borders, etc., there's never anything telling me what is planted there. If there's information on plants it a boring litany of data that's more like an encyclopedia. I have a really nice little book on American Cottage Gardening. It gives almost no detail of what is included in the gardens other than the one or two most dominant plants. There's never any suggestion of what one use instead of one of them. So, anyway, that is what I'm trying to make up for. But please be honest with me.

I intend to use everybody's given name in the text and their full name in the list of contributors. For those who do not want their names used in either form, I will refer to as 'This gardener' in the text, and simply omit their names from the list of contributors, but add a note at the bottom acknowledging that there are contributors who have chosen to remain anonymous.

My goal is also to work with everyone to have at least one photo in the book as acknowledgement of the hard work we all do on behalf of beautifying the world.

Oh, do you think I should say that? You know, I had not really thought about that, but where the plants we use can be grown from seed, I need to say that for sure! Thanks for the suggestion.
