regional searchAre you going to have a Ohio Valley region? I live in central Indiana and would like to be able to contact people in my own region, so that I know my plants will survive that I'm trading for....thanks for any reply!!! |

| As soon as there are enough members (who are posting to the forums) from a region, I'll put one up. I don't remember how many in your area are posting... I'll have to check the list again. P.S. It really helps me identify the need for a regional forum if members put the state they live in in the location field of their profile. |

| Maybe you could group certain states together & then have subgroups? For example, although I live in Arkansas, I am one mile from the Louisiana state line & am about an hour away from Shreveport, LA & Texarkana, AR & TX. Sooo, I would be interested in all 3 states in the Ark-La-Tx region but then maybe I'd like to click on Arkansas for something alittle closer. |

| Hello Luckylady8, I am from the Ohio River Vally region. I live about 30 minutes from the Ohio River. Maybe we can do some trading some time. Just wanted everyone to know I was from Ohio and that sharing states would be a great idea. Deb |

| I like the idea by zone too but I'm just wondering about the logistics there.. Unless Bernard can think of a way.. Maybe multiple zones too cuz we can have microclimates in the yard too.. Humm..

| by state would be a good way of finding exact and specific info for your area. also a way of finding people close by for trades, help, etc. you'd be limited to that one state only, though by zone would be more helpful though, i think. the zones cross over so many states, there'd be more info being listed and, in the long run, would be a better resource when you've got a question about a particular plant. i'd go with zones. |

| That would be a great idea to have more regional forums as the need arises. The only sad aspect for me is that I will have to wait a pretty long time before I get swapping partners. In the mean time and until I get more space I will keep on asking for small cuttings and seeds from the gardeners around here. Last edited by Cycas; 02-25-2008 at 03:07 PM. Reason: Typo |

| Bernard, what about by region. Like Northeast, would have NY, CT, MA, PA, NJ. That would include zones 5-7. Like I'm in zone 6 but have microclimates in my yard next depending on where I plant that can range from zone 5 in the wind tunnel area in front with minimal sun in the winter to maybe zone 7 in the back next to the house, sheltered area with full sun all afternoon. Just an idea..

| That's what I'm talking about. Give me the specific suggestions/breakdowns that you would like to see. I am not intimately familiar with gardening conditions all over the USA, so I wouldn't know where the logical divisions are by climate (USDA zone), soil, etc. I don't have time right now to research it and do it justice either. |

Zones/climate/soilIt would be really great to have zones because then could send the right kind of plants to my friends in different zones. Just wondering-I think Oklahoma is the only state that has such awful clay sand soil. Is that correct? I have only been in OK for 9 years and I've killed more plants than I care to remember. I've since learned to mulch (relentlessly) and use hose soakers instead of the sprinklers. Still a challenge. It seems that the plants I get from Texas seem to grow pretty good. What is the soil like there? -Donna |
