Chicago Hardy Figs in SD Hi There,
I'd really like some in-put on over-wintering Chicago Hardy Figs... I have 8 young trees, currently split between 3 planters... I was thinking of separating them again and planting them in their own pots, but maybe I should wait until next spring, if any of the group survives the winter. I was thinking that I could put them in my cellar (dirt-floor, stays between 36 and 45 degrees during the winter) after they've gone dormant and having been brutally hit by the SD winter air. Should I cover the planters/trees when they are in the cellar? I can wrap them in paper or cardboard... these trees aren't 2' tall yet, but close. They've liked the spring and summer here! Anyone with suggestions? I'd love to hear from you. I'm located about 30 miles South of Aberdeen SD... somewhere between zone 3-b and 4-a.
Thanks so much!
Linda
