Old window table top

This is an old window that I put broken tempered glass on and then grouted.

Here it is without the wooden table under it.

I really like the way the light comes through it. I think it will be a neat table top.

COOL! Love it Deb!
Do you know, somewhere around here I have a boxful of broken tempered glass
that I have yet to do anything with.

I was planning to make a sort of a geode-like thingie with hypertufa and embedded glass crumbles,
this pic from the internet has been in my inspiration file for ages.

Oh zuzu. Although this turned out very nice. Alot nicer than I had thought it would. The picture does not do it justice. It took me forever to glue all those little pieces on there. I was so tired of the thing and glueing the pieces on that I left it sit, for almost a year now, before I grouted it. I kept the rest of the glass but I dont think I will ever use it. It was very tedious and time consuming. I had to take a tooth pick and put glue on the back of the pieces. Just be prepared to spend alot of time on something that your glueing tempered glass on.

I hear that Deb.
I think that's part of why I have chickened out every time I thought about starting the project.

You're right, there is no ball inside that "geode", it's solid hypertufa.
As best as I can recall from reading the instructions, they used a round form into which they packed the hypertufa
adding layers of the tempered glass crumbles around the edges as they went.
Removing the form after the hypertufa cured, they brushed away any loose crumbles which would leave some pretty interesting cavities,
I would imagine.

I wouldn't want to try the project without some REALLY good gloves,
I cut myself a few times just putting my crumbles into the box ... way back when,
I may not recall where I put the box, but I haven't forgotten the pain.

Your idea of starting with a bowling ball might be pretty interesting, too.

You could paint the ball in some interesting colors or way and then put the glass on top and grout between and you could still see the pattern or colors under the glass.
That project with the hypertufa I wouldnt even know how to start.
But it looks great.
