I LOVE IT Love It love it. I want to do one like that and I'd like to do a mosaic table top one day. Do you prep the ball in anyway? I've gotten several BB at the Goodwill. I painted them all to look like ladybugs. I kept giving them away. I finally made one for myself this fall. I scrubed mine with hot soapy water but still had to put a primer coat on them before the paint would stick to it properly.

Angie, you were telling her correctly. You use alcohol on the ball first to get rid of any oil that's left on it. Then lightly sandpaper the ball so the glue will stick better. Thanks for the info on how to paint one. I"m gonna paint one of them and put half marbles on it for my daughter. Shes asked for a pink one. I started a mosaic on my potting bench last fall but didnt get it finished before the cold weather set in. Now, I finally found some orange and red tiles that I wanted to finish it with. I will have to wait until spring though.

that is too cute!

the mosaic is awesome as well. just one question....what do you use to get the tiles on in the first place?? I wonder if you could use tiny pebbles instead of tile....I've been wanting to make one like that....(not knowing the anatomy of a bowling ball) with the thumb hole drilled all the way through for a fountain.

I use clear silicone. Its an outdoor silicone for windows and doors. Yes, you could very easily do this with pebbles and you can also drill the hole all the way through the ball and make a fountain. That is an excellent idea. That would look so neat if you c overed it with pebbles and made it into a fountain. The balls are usually plastic or rubber or a combination of the two. So drilling a hole through it would be easy to do. You would just have to make sure that you seal it very well because if the water gets into the grout it would erode it. I might have to try that too.

You can do a lot with BB. Years ago I saw on TV they had been used to line paths in a garden. Another guy sat green ones in a vine and had a sign saying it was a bowling ball vine only he made it look like it was Latin. I can't remember how it went but it was cute and gave people a giggle. One guy cuts them in half and makes lady bugs out of them. I saw a photo of one that had been drilled and made into a fountain. It was a pretty blue one so it hadn't been altered other then the hole. I'd like to do that too. So many ideas so little time.
I'll remember the alcohol and sandpaper next time.
