TalkingSmall Aquarium Greenhouse

Hey everyone. I was curious to get some opinions on making a mini greenhouse from a 100 gal aquarium. Was thinking of using that with some recycled windows for the "roof". Was planning to use as an outdoor seed starting area in March. Think it will work?

Hi MAK,

My website "Southeast Texas Gardening" has a page on hobby greenhouses. Take a look and see if that offers any help to you.

Ive always wanted a green house even though I don't have too many house plants. My plants don't do so well in the house in the winter so I thought maybe they would do better in a green house. I wouldn't need a very big one. Ive been thinking about ordering one and have been checking out different sites that have them for sale. Which way do you think I should go?What's a good size to start for someone who is a beginner?

If anyone is looking for a real simple greenhouse plan using a portable garage shelter, you can find one at:http:www.plumeria101.com/howto.html
It is'nt very pretty as is,but I am going to put one up this way with finished ends. I plan to winter over my tender tropicals in it here in Fl.

Hi dirtyfingernails. Thanks for the greenhouse link. I have one of those carports that I was going to get rid of. It will now have a new life in my garden area. When you assemble yours could you post pics of how you do the seam. That part seemed a bit vague in the other link. Thanks!

Cheezyrat,
Happy to be able to help you to going green by recycling that old carport.
As I stated on my post, I plan on finishing off the open ends by using plywood and adding a drop down vent at each end.
I am going to e-mail you the address where you can get excellent tape for joining poly together. I also had the idea of using eight 1 1/4" pvc pipe by ten foot long instead of the tie downs. Just cut a radius on the ends and bolt them through onto the metal framing. This is only because I will be using it more as a permanent structure.
I will take pictures and post them when I construct it.
Happy gardening,
Bill

Talked to a friend that works at the local dump.He tells me that they get a lot of the portable garages brought there. They are usually beyond repair when he gets them though.
I am now going to place an ad in the local paper: [U]Wanted[U]portable garage.Canvas cover not necessary.( May be on to something.) I'll keep you up to date,
Bill

Sounds like a great idea,
maybe also post a listing with your local FreeCycle.
