How to Buy Cheap pots

Forgive my stupidity for not knowing if you have discussed this topic already. This is my first post outside Introductions.

I wonder if anyone has found a good source for purchasing clay pots cheap...especially the smaller ones to root or otherwise propagate plants.

Would pooling ourselves as a large buyer be a consideration, whereby we would order in huge quantity, then distribute from a centralized location?

Apologies again if this is been addressed elsewhere. Your direction to the link would be greatly appreciated!

Warmly,
Elizabeth

Hey Elizabeth, well, around here you can get the small terra cottas usually 4 for a dollar ir cheaper. In my opinion doing a group buy would save very little if anything cause we live all over the country and shipping cost would eat us alive. Since it would be doubled, to the central location and then to each Individual participate. There are a couple site I seen that have pots for a reasonable price but you have to do a specific search of pot type to turn up good results. Good luck in finding some close to you.

Hi,
Clay pots are cheap at Home Depot.
Clay pots are cheap at Lowe's.
Clay pots are cheap at K-Mart, Wal Mart, etc.
Clay pots are cheap on EBay.
Clay pots are often free on Craigslist.
If you have a superficial relationship with your local nurseries - ask them. If you are on good terms, they often will give you used ones.

Shipping would make it cost prohibitive and in fact, cost a lot more than the pots, to do this "internally" on here. For instance, I have tons that you could have - but it would cost way more than the pots are worth, to ship.

If you want small ones - then you can indeed get them at Wal Mart, Home Depot, etc for
cents.

Good luck!

I find all kind of inexpensive terracotta clay pots with drainage trays included, at the dollar store....then I take them home, to spray-paint and decorate them.

Many thanks to all. I see that what I already knew is all there is to know, but it never hurts to ask the experts.

I have used freecycle to get pots and plants. These folks were totally redoing their yard and took up every bush and flower from their yard so they could redo it with other plants. They gave the plants away on a first come first serve. The plants were gone by 8am, lol. Freecycle is a really neat thing.

I just picked up a bunch of pots from freecycle a few weeks ago. Some I kept and some I paid it forward.

I also like freecycle and trashnothing, but it's hit and miss many times.

I scour yard sales and thrift stores for clay pots. I bring them home and scrub them up and they are perfect.
