The video starts out a little bit like a show but the compost bin is a good idea. I am yet to build mine but it seems like it is easier and up off the ground might discourage ants. You might want to modify your bin with what you have handy.

Ants:
Maybe you could get a few Peonies to put somewhere in the yard to encourage ants in only one area?? Also when we lived in Texas a lady was talking about she put ground coral on her yard to prevent bugs said it comes in a bad from hardware store and was safe for people?? Not sure... or how safe for the ocean it is.

we have been looking for a round plastic drum to use this year. I plant on spray painting it black.

it looks like a simple 2x4 frame with a metal rod through it as spindle.... here's the link!

you just give it a spin every day (or every other day) like when you water your plants or check your garden!....seems easy enough

Was wondering, I arent into compose but thought some folks put lime in it and turn the stuff all the time.
Would that not get rid of ants> ? Hear they are huge in some places..
