Bestest Cheapest DIY Trellis

I was wandering around Home Depot looking for rebar thinking I could pound them in the ground and thread chicken wire on them for a trellis .. sitting right next to the rebar were 10 foot Masonry Ladders. They are perfect! They are 6 inches wide with a cross bar every 15 and 3/4 inches. By itself it makes about a 4 foot arch depending on how close the ends are together. If you want something wider, just put 2 side by side. Something taller than wire two together. And the absolute best part? They only cost $2.60.

Great find Xeolyte – Looks like Home Depot is going to have a stampede in the rebar department.

I also see another use for the masonary ladder.
One can cross 2 of them an put plastic over them which can be used for a tempory Hot bed.
Wow thanks for sharing .

YES!!! Mucho appreciation!!!
I'm thinking you can also stand them up straight, staked to the ground somehow, to grow your tomatoes up, or in my case, some of my very high growing vines.

THANK YOU!!!

Yep .. I've been thinking of all kinds of things you can use them for .. but they are pretty waffley and I don't think they would work very well with heavy plants like tomatoes - they are better suited to light vines like morning glory, asarina etc.

I like the idea of crossing them and covering with plastic!

I'm thinking that if you put two on top of each other it might make it stronger for heavier plants with a little reinforcement!
