Rags to Riches

I stopped by Walmart yesterday and as usual entered through the garden center. Out front there were a few sad looking Holly "Schillings". One of them caught my eye and thought that would make a nice Bonsai. What a deal, three bucks! Who says those ratty looking plants are useless? Below are images of what one can get with a little time and far too much fun.

Still a lot of branch positioning, trimming and overall TLC. But hey it's just a baby!

Very nice!

Can't wait to see it when it looks a bit fuller.

Thanks RR, X, and Jr! I'm actually pretty pleased for a preliminary shaping. They usually look very awkward for awhile. It will fill out eventually. Although this time of year they slow down. It's just easier to remove a lot of leaves when shaping it. That way I can see the basic branch structure. The main structure is there with a few random other branches in case one snaps when positing them. When it starts to fill out I want the distal branching this will thicken the canopy but allow viewing of the branch structure.
