Several months ago I built a small pond in my back yard. It's so small I call it my puddle. Actually it's about 10' x 6' x 1'

I decided that I needed (actually SadieMae got me excited about) a bog adjoining my puddle, through which I could filter my pond water and keep it clear while having another part of a water feature that would make it all the more interesting.

I have a pump moving water from the puddle (pond) down into the bottom of the bog (the tub that I've used to build it). The water is released there to filter back up through the gravel, creek rocks, larger rocks (fist size), plant roots, and various 'stuff' I've added there--like a piece of driftwood. It leaves the bog via an overflow and the water drips and gently flows over two large rocks angled so that the water gets maximum exposure to rock and water. The overall effect is good--my water garden looks much larger and the algea is virtually gone from the pond.

BFG, It looks wonderful! And like it's already established and been there much longer than it has been. Great job friend.

Lol, there's no room for my feet with all the plants in there! I'm trying to convince her to put a couple goldfish to make it complete. Between the hummingbird, dragonfly and cardinal that were there last time I visited, the only thing missing was the fish. BTW, I don't think she ever wears shoes unless she has to!

I tend to discourage bullfrogs from taking up residence in my pond as the bigger bullfrogs will eat fish, but tree peepers are welcomed anytime........

As for the other critters, i.e. dragonflies, they are welcome too but rarely seen, but I do get pond skaters (some people call them water spiders) they are great for nat and skeeter control
