Beer

Wow! That is really interesting. I've never heard about that. Think I'll google and see if I can find out how much & how often. I usually change out my barley straw in my plastic ball every season. Although I can't really remember the recommended time to change... that seems to be enough. I'm sure beer would be cheaper. Thanks! Let us know if you find out more.

Clear Pond Water

Has anyone ever tried the "beer" solution? Any other suggestions to getting a clear pond? Sure could use some advice.

String/ blanket algae and koi pretators

I've used an 'In-line-magnet' to control blanket algae and it worked for me. They are hard to find, but well worth it when you do. Just make sure you buy one that's big enough for your pump gph. The magnet connects to the pump hose/ pipe the goes to your filter.

For Koi pretators, I allways did caves. just set up 2 spots (on opposite sides of the pond) and make a cave. 3 rocks with a large rock on top works great.
I allways used flagstone or a large flat rock for the top. This gives the fish somewhere to race and hide too. The 2nd cave on other side of pond allows them to run away if bird goes into pond after them.

I've had neighbors that lost koi, spotted heron (sp?) in my pond after my koi, and never lost a single fish.
