Growing Hosta from Seed


Hi all
I have received Hosta seeds in a recent trade.....Anyone have any experience growing Hosta from seed.....Any tips, suggestions.....directions?????

I have hostas and did'nt even know that ya can get seeds from them? Duh! Sorry can't help, I wanna know where are the seeds so I can save some.

After the flowers are finished, there are pods left behind......when dried, the seeds are ready inside.

I got some from Wintersown and I just put them in miracle grow potting soil and they are coming up. I have the in a milk jug cover because they like shade. They are doing good so far. I will go take a picture for you.

I always just divided mine and moved them around, never thought about seeds? Duh!

No sweat.......curious to see what they look like.
I just got a lotus seed to "sprout" and it is the most amazing thing to watch....it came out of the seed in 2 days....it is quite cool to observe.

I looked at that site my state is not listed? Is this a pond plant, just curious I think I heard of it before just don't know. Says perennial to what zone?

Cool......I would not have guessed they were Hosta.....

Yes they are pond plants....similar to waterlily's but different....this variety is zone 5 hardy. The flowers are stunning......I can hardly wait till next Spring to put it in the pond.

My pleasure. I happen to know where the hostas are that have seeds and I just went a picked some..hehehehehe I will have lots of seeds when the dry out
