SmileDid anyone plant onion seeds?


I PLANTED ONION SEEDS LAST 2 DAYS IN TRAYS.INDOORS. ANY ONE ELSE DO THIS? i AM ZONE 5.
HAVE TO START EARLY.....HERE .. WISH ME LUCK.

Also, when they are about 4-5 inches tall (2-3 leaves) - it helps to cut them back at that stage to start the bulb sooner.

The reason I said 3-4 inches, is because at 5 inches they would be too leggy and more likely to damp off (rot)

I WS'd both green onions and walla walla's. I haven't had much luck with onions the past 2 years, I think this year, I'm going to put them out in my herb garden. We'll see!

Hey everyone..

Angie and bali..ya'll are so crazy and so much fun..you both keep me laughing all day.lol.hubby thinks I am crazy when I start laughing..Keep it up now,,

mcole,,I have had good luck in pots starting them and in the ground..I got my seeds today.yeah,,so tomorrow I will be seeding them..wootwoot..

Been doing my own for the past few years. I have found that the Sweet Candy onion is "THE BEST" onion EVER! No long or short day. Huge sweet nummy Onions. I started then last week in Jan. They are now 2" tall. Put them out in the greenhouse to finish them off. Will trim them at 3" plant them out in the garden late march. Garden is still under 3" of frozen hard snow.

Right now I have 300 seedling going strong. I have 50 onions in the cellar waiting to be eaten. Grew them last year from seed.
