Aerogarden

Hey has anyone out there tried the Aerogarden? My husband got me one for my birthday last year and it works pretty good. The only problem is that thay want you to buy the refill pods and the selection of the things they plant in those pods are a bit limited. I was thinking of just buying the pods and sticking my own seeds it but I didn't want to waste the old ones (each pod as a plastic wire grid). If anyone knows what type of foam is in the pod, that would be fabulous. I want to try to get the foam and re-use the pod frames with my own seeds.

BTW, the Aerogarden is pretty good. It doesn't grow as big as the picture suggests but it still gets to a pretty good size. The only thing is that when you dump it out when the annuals are spent, it takes a while to clean. And my Aerogarden plants also got infected with little tiny (fruit flies?) bugs. So, it's not bug free.

I've never heard of it before, but I have been thinking about growing herbs in the kitchen for some time though. Thanks for the report, I might try one.

Aerogarden

It's definitely worth a try. It's a bit steep but it's pretty good. The kit allows you to grow 8 pods. And they sell their seed pods in 8 packs. All, herbs, all lettuce, all tomato, all strawberry, etc.

I know that their instructions says that according to each type of plant grown, there's a specific setting. Well, I'm thinking as long as they get light and water everyday, that should be fine. So, I'm planning to mix lettuce and herbs together. I'm just waiting for my new pods right now.

Basically, if you do get it, let me know. We might be able to swap seed pods then.

I saw them on tv and wondered about them. I thought they looked pretty interesting. Can you grow tomatoes in them? Or are they too small for that?
Thanks
Deb
